East 38th Street Urban Design Assessment

City Minneapolis, 2014

full report

Recent infrastructure investments have brought a significant amount of new economic development to the Kingfield neighborhood of south Minneapolis.  The Bryant neighborhood, immediately across the interstate, was seeking to plan for similar infrastructure improvements in order to spur development and investment in under-utilized commercial nodes.  The City of Minneapolis Urban Design team undertook an analysis of the existing infrastructure to target areas for new investment based on their development potential.  The plan was used by the sitting council member for a series of workshops about the future of East 38th Street and has been used to guide investment in the public realm by the City Public Works Department.
